 | Dowel Type Panel and Post Construction
To get an idea of why our fences are so strong and durable, we must think about the way the posts and panels fit together.
The backing rails, typically half rounds or sometimes made of 2 x 3's have doweled ends. These ends are inserted into holes we predrill with speciallized boring machines so the posts and panels fit together.
Once the pieces are installed, we then nail through the dowel and the post to reinforce the joint.
Quite a setup! | Backing Rails
You may choose either the 2" x 3" or the Half Round Backing Rails to support the back of your fence. Both are of dowel constuction and equal in strength and durability. You may choose either style for your fence. If you are unsure, please ask one of our qualified staff members to assist you. |
2" x 3" Backing Rails, part of the sturdy construction setup. |
Half Round Backing Rails have a rustic appeal and are considered a bit more decorative. These half rounds are sturdy and remain stable throughout the years. |

Checking
All natural wood installed by us is still fresh from the logging farms. The wood will dry over the summer. A process called checking may occur in your posts and rails. The drawing above shows a "crack" where moisture has escaped. This process does not affect the structural performance or integrity of your fence.
